Horizon Studios is an independent software company based in Kansas. We build apps the way we think they should be built: beautiful, respectful of your privacy, and free of ads.
Why we exist
Most apps are built to extract attention and sell it to advertisers. We think that's a bad deal for everyone.
We build apps we'd want to use ourselves — tools and games that earn their place on your home screen because they're genuinely useful or genuinely fun. Not because they manipulate you into opening them.
Every Horizon app shares the same principles: no ads, no tracking, no data selling. Premium features are honest upgrades, not paywalls designed to frustrate.
Who we are
Horizon Studios was founded by Jeff Schiesser, a tech executive who started building apps as a creative outlet and discovered he couldn't stop.
Jeff also writes about sobriety, identity, and personal change at buildhorizons.com. The first Horizon app — Horizon Tracker — grew directly from that journey. The rest followed because building things is more fun than not building things.
We're a small operation. No investors, no board, no incentive to compromise. Just good apps.
What we build
Tools
Horizon Tracker (sobriety counter) and Horizon Tasks (to-do app) — built to be genuinely useful, not addictive.
Word Games
Horizon Words, Seek, and Crossword — daily puzzles with campaign depth, procedural audio, and no ads.
Narrative Games
HORIZON (meditative idle game) and Gravwell (roguelike deck-builder) — atmospheric experiences with real endings.
Strategy
Red Harvest — a cozy Mars colony sim with production chains and terraforming. Coming soon.
